Marsha Mason, Andre De Shields, Michael T. Weiss, Aaron Lazar and Margarita Levieva have joined the cast of the Michael Jacobs’ Impressionism, according to The New York Times. They join previously announced stars Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons in the world premiere production, which is set to begin previews on February 28 and open on March 12 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Jack O’Brien will direct.
Impressionism is described as the story of a world-traveling photojournalist and a New York gallery owner who help repair each others' broken lives. Jacobs wrote the Broadway comedy Cheaters, which ran for one month at the Biltmore Theatre in 1978. In addition to writing for 15 TV series, he produced the movie Quiz Show, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1994.
Mason’s recent New York theater credits include A Feminine Ending, Steel Magnolias and Wintertime. De Shields’ Broadway credits include The Full Monty, Play On! and Ain’t Misbehavin’. Weiss, known for TV’s The Pretender, starred off-Broadway last season in Scarcity. Lazar, who recently ended his run in A Tale of Two Cities, has appeared on Broadway in Les Miserables and A Light in the Piazza.
Produced by Ostar Productions, Impressionism will arrive at the Schoenfeld Theatre after the revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons ends its limited engagement on January 11.
